The Joe Hirsch Turf Classic is set to take place this Saturday at Belmont Park in New York. The race has a distance of 1 1/2 miles, which will be the longest race many horses in the field have run in their careers, so that is definitely something to keep an eye on. My Pick
I like Zulu Alpha at odds of 4/1. This is a horse that is coming off a win at the Kentucky Turf Cup a month ago, and looks to be rounding into form.
Channel Maker has only one win in his last 6 races since winning the Joe Hirsch last year and he’s been beaten by several of the horses in this field in recent races, so I’m not on him to repeat at odds of 2-1.
Sadler’s Joy is a threat, but he hasn’t won in his last ten races, so he’s not the type of horse that I like to bet on.
Give me Zulu Alpha coming off a nice win at this same distance.
