Is Sports Betting Legal in Milwaukee?
Yes, but only through the state’s tribes. Wisconsin allows sports betting under tribal gaming compacts, and until now every bet has had to be placed in person at a tribal casino or on tribal land.
That is changing. Governor Tony Evers signed Assembly Bill 601 on April 9, 2026, which lets tribes accept online bets from anywhere in Wisconsin as long as their servers are on tribal land. Each tribe still needs an amended compact and federal approval, so no statewide app had launched as of fall 2026. The first ones are expected in late 2026 or 2027.
Where To Bet on Sports in Milwaukee
Potawatomi Casino Hotel in downtown Milwaukee has had a sportsbook since 2023, with a betting lounge and self-serve kiosks open around the clock. It is run by the Forest County Potawatomi Community.
Offshore sportsbooks licensed outside the United States are also used by some Wisconsin residents. These sites are not regulated by Wisconsin or any other state, so you have no state regulator to go to if there is a problem with an account or a payout. Illinois, about 40 minutes south, has legal online betting for anyone physically in the state.
