Bet On The 2014 Preakness Stakes – Odds and Pick

Preakness Stakes 2014The Preakness Stakes are set to take place this coming Saturday, May 17th at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore.  California Chrome is the favorite heading into the race after he won the Kentucky Derby in impressive fashion.  You can check out the full 2014 Derby race below:

As you can see it was a fairly easy victory for California Chrome and it looks like he will be just fine with the shorter length that is the Preakness Stakes because he was able to gain the lead fairly early in the Derby race.

2014 Preakness Stakes Winner Odds

  • California Chrome -160
  • Social Inclusion +450

  • Dynamic Impact +1000
  • Bayern +1100
  • General a Rod +1200
  • Pablo Del Monte +1800
  • Kid Cruz +2000
  • Ring Weekend +3000
  • Ria Antonia +5000

California Chrome is a big favorite.  The -160 odds translates into an approximately 61% chance of winning the Preakness.  California Chrome does seem to just be a cut above the competition this year.  There has not been a Triple Crown winner in USA Thoroughbred Racing since Affirmed won way back in 1978.  Since then in those 35 years the winner of the Kentucky Derby has won the Preakness Stakes 12 times.  This includes a couple years back when I’ll Have Another won the Preakness, but had to pull out of the Belmont Stakes because of an injury.

If California Chrome can win the Preakness it will make betting on the 2014 Belmont Stakes that much more exciting.  By the looks of the horses competing California Chrome may have the best shot at a Triple Crown since Big Brown was considered a near shoe-in back in 2008.  I like Chromes chances in this race.  I just want an exciting Belmont Stakes with a lot of fanfare, which will be the case if California Chrome is able to win the Preakness after winning the Kentucky Derby.
