Bet On The 2020 Kentucky Derby – Odds and Picks

The biggest race in the USA is only a few days away and I can feel the hype starting to build up for the horse racing season.  The Kentucky Derby is the second most bet on sporting event in North America, only second to the Super Bowl, which shows that this race is big business.

This years Derby was postponed from its originally scheduled date of May 2nd, 2020 to September 5th. The Belmont Stakes went ahead as scheduled on June 20th, which has caused the Kentucky Derby to be bumped to the second leg of the Triple Crown this year.

Tiz the Law won the Belmont Stakes in June and he is entering the Kentucky Derby as a big favorite at odds of 3/5. He drew the 17th post position and will line up beside the two other real contenders in the race with Honor A.P. (5-1) starting from post 16 and Authentic (8-1) starting from post 18.

In this article I’ll look at the morning line odds for all of the horses in this years Kentucky Derby and also provide a step by step guide to placing a bet on the Kentucky Derby this year.

  16. Honor A.P. 5-1
  17. Tiz The Law 3-5
  18. Authentic 8-1

The horses are listed in order of their post position.

My Pick

I’m on Tiz the Law to win this race. Even at odds of 3-5 I think there is value on a horse that should easily be the fastest in the field. Avoiding drawing a post position near the rail and starting right beside his two main competitors should help Tiz the Law’s chances of getting the job done on Saturday.

Tiz the Law won the Belmont Stakes by four lengths and followed that up by running away from a solid field at the Travers Stakes last month in a race that is the same distance as the upcoming Derby.

I believe Tiz the Law is simply on another level to every other horse in this field and I fully expect him to win the Kentucky Derby this Saturday by a few lengths.

Play: Tiz the Law 3/5

At the time of this article you can still bet on Tiz the Law in the sportsbook at odds of -125. I think that’s a great value bet because I expect him to close at close to -200 on race day.
