It’s fight day! Jake Paul will face former heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua, in a heavyweight fight this evening (Friday, December 19th) at the Kaseya Center in Miami. The fight will be a professional boxing match with a length of 8 3-minute rounds with the fighters using 10oz gloves. The event will be streamed for free on Netflix with the main event ring walk expected at 10:30pm ET (9:30pm CT).
Jake Paul is taking a massive step up in competition in this fight. Anthony Joshua was heavyweight champion back in 2020, but he has lost his last three title fights (two to Usyk in 2021 and 2022, and most recently a knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in 2024). The weight limit for the Paul vs Joshua fight will be 245 pounds. The weight-in took place yesterday with Jake Paul weighing in at 216.6 pounds and Anthony Joshua making weight at 243.4 pounds.

My Thoughts
I have followed and reported on influencer boxing betting since the first KSI vs Logan Paul fight launched the scene in 2018. Jake Paul fought KSI’s brother, Deji, on that card, winning a sloppy fight by late knockout. Fast forward 7 years and Paul is fighting the man who was heavyweight champion at that time in Anthony Joshua.
One thing to consider when looking at these prize fights is what result would set up the fighters for more big events in the future. In this Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua fight, it’s Joshua who is taking all of the risk. A loss for Joshua would severely hurt his potential for future high profile fights. At 36 years of age, Joshua is in the twilight of his career, but he still has the star power for a few more huge payday fights (there’s talk of a fight with Tyson Fury in 2026) and potentially another title shot. A loss to Paul would derail Joshua’s potential to earn significant prize money in the final few years of his career. Joshua’s motivation for taking this fight is limited risk (on paper he should win this fight easily) for a huge payday. It makes perfect sense for Joshua to take this fight with Paul, but he does need to win in order to continue cashing in on big events in the future.
On the flip side, just getting in the ring with Joshua is giving Jake Paul a lot of credibility in the boxing world. A win would obviously make his stock skyrocket, but a loss does not hurt him. Paul should still have potential fights with other high profile fighters in his future (Canelo Alvarez, Terence Crawford, Ryan Garcia, Conor McGregor, Francis Ngannou are all potential opponents) even with a loss.
When asking the question, “what result makes both fighters winner?” I’m leaning towards a late finish for Joshua. Paul will be able to claim he lasted longer than Ngannou in the ring with Joshua, and Anthony Joshua will get the win that he needs. Bovada.lv has odds for Joshua to win in rounds 5-8 at odds of +600 (odds accurate as of December 19th). This is a bet that I’m looking at because the result would essentially result in a win for both fighters.
