The state of Missouri has five major league franchises sprouting out of two big cities – St. Louis and Kansas City. With sports betting going main stream in the United States it should come as no surprise that Missouri residents are placing more sports bets than ever before.

The Show-Me State, however, does not allow sports betting operations within the state. This means if you live in Missouri you have to place your bets through an online betting site that is licensed and regulated outside of the USA.

Read on for an overview of where the state currently stands in regards to sports betting regulation, and what popular betting sites accept Missouri residents.

Is Online Sports Betting Legal in Missouri?

As of right now, operating a sportsbook within Missouri is not legal.

That said, residents of Missouri can place bets through offshore betting sites that are licensed and regulated outside of the United States. I’ve outlined our two favorite betting sites for Missouri residents below.

**At the beginning of 2023 two new house bills were filed to begin the session. Sports betting legalization has support from influential parties in the state, so there is optimism that 2023 is the year legalized sports betting is passed in Missouri.

Offline Sports Betting in Missouri

Touching on this above, bills have not lead to any legalization of offline sports betting within Missouri. Anything operation accepting bets within state lines is doing so illegally.

The only way to currently place bets from Missouri is through an online sportsbook that accepts American players and is licensed and regulated outside of the USA. The two sites I outlined above fall into this category.

  • St. Louis Cardinals (Baseball – MLB)

Horse Racing in Missouri

There are currently no horse racing tracks running in Missouri. It is legal to bet on live horse races in the state, but simulcast betting is only allowed on days when racetracks hold live races. This restriction on simulcast betting, which is unique to Missouri and would limit the amount of money a track can earn, was enough to stifle any investments in bringing a horse racing track to Missouri.

The fact that Missouri did not even approve a proposal to allow simulcast racing throughout the year, makes me think it may be several more years before regulated sports betting comes to Missouri.

In the meantime Missouri residents can bet on horse racing tracks from across the United States (and world) and every major sport in the USA at Bovada.lv.
