The UFC has grown tremendously over the past decade and is now one of the most popular sports to bet on in the United States. The promotion’s top stars such as Jon Jones, Alex Pereira, and Islam Makhachev are household names, and a big UFC pay-per-view event draws huge betting interest. Many Americans actually place their very first sports bet to wager on a big fight, which makes UFC a perfect entry point into online sports betting.

Whether this is your first sports bet ever or you’re an experienced bettor looking to sharpen your UFC wagering, this page has you covered. We explain where Americans can bet on the UFC, walk through every bet type with real odds examples, and provide tips from a fight analysis perspective to help you pick more winners.

Where Can Americans Bet On The UFC?

Your options depend on where you live. Here are the main ways to bet on UFC fights in the United States.

Licensed Sportsbooks

Sports betting is legal in more than 35 states plus Washington, D.C., where licensed sportsbooks such as DraftKings, FanDuel and BetMGM offer odds on UFC fights. You must be 21 or older in most states and physically located in a state where the sportsbook is licensed.

Prediction Markets

Prediction markets such as Kalshi and Polymarket let you buy and sell contracts on the outcome of UFC fights. Instead of betting against a sportsbook, you trade with other users, and the price of a contract reflects the market’s view of how likely an outcome is. These platforms operate under federal oversight from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) rather than state gambling law, which is why they are available in most states, including states without legal sports betting.

Offshore Sportsbooks

Offshore sportsbooks are licensed outside the United States and accept bets from across the country. They are not licensed or regulated by any US state, which means Americans who use them have no state regulator to turn to if there is a dispute over a bet or a withdrawal.

Outside the US

In Canada, Ontario has a regulated market of licensed online sportsbooks, and the other provinces offer online betting through their provincial lottery sites. In the UK, use operators licensed by the Gambling Commission. Elsewhere, check the rules in your country before signing up with any betting site.

UFC Betting Options

There are several types of bets you can make on UFC fights. The moneyline is by far the most popular, but total rounds, method of victory, round betting, and parlays all offer additional ways to wager on the action. Below we’ll walk through each with detailed examples.

To Win Fight (Money Line)

The most basic and popular UFC bet is simply wagering on which fighter will win the fight. Both fighters are given odds by the sportsbook based on their perceived chances of winning. The American odds format will indicate how much you need to risk to win $100 betting on the favorite (-) or how much you will win by risking $100 on the underdog (+).

Here’s an example:

  • Jiri Prochazka +130
  • Alex Pereira -150

In this example Pereira is the favorite in his fight with Prochazka. A $100 bet on Jiri Prochazka would win $130 if he pulled off the upset. To win $100 betting on Pereira you would need to risk $150 and have him get the win.

Here is an example showing the fight winner odds for a Jiri Prochazka vs Carlos Ulberg fight (different than the example above):

Total Rounds (Over/Under)

You can wager on how long a fight will last. The sportsbook sets an over/under total for the number of rounds and you bet on whether the fight will end before or after that point. It’s important to know that standard UFC fights are 3 rounds, while title fights and main events are 5 rounds, which affects where the total is set.

Here’s the total rounds for the Prochazka vs Pereira fight (a 5-round title fight):

  • Over 3.5 (-120)
  • Under 3.5 (+100)

For a bet on the over 3.5 to win, the fight would have to go past the 2 minute 30 second mark in the fourth round (the halfway point of that round). If the fight ends in the first 3 rounds or within the first half of the fourth round, then the under 3.5 bets would be winners. For non-title 3-round fights, the total is typically set at 1.5 or 2.5 rounds.

Method of Victory

Method of victory betting is one of the most popular UFC props. A UFC fight can end in several ways – a fighter can win by KO/TKO, submission, or decision. You bet on which fighter wins and how they get the finish. “Inside distance” is another common option which combines both KO/TKO and submission into one bet (essentially betting on a finish by either method).

Here’s an example with some of the method of victory odds from a past heavyweight title fight between Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic:

  • Cormier wins by TKO/KO +465
  • Cormier wins by Submission +960
  • Cormier wins Inside Distance +335
  • Cormier wins by Decision +400
  • Miocic wins by TKO/KO +160
  • Miocic wins by Submission +960
  • Miocic wins Inside Distance +136
  • Miocic wins by Decision +310

If Miocic gets a first round KO, both the “wins by KO/TKO +160” and “wins Inside Distance +136” lines would be winners and all of the others would be losers. If Cormier grinds out a decision win behind his wrestling, then the “Cormier wins by Decision +400” bets would win and all others would be losers. Method of victory bets can offer great value when you have a strong read on how a fight will play out.

Round Betting

Round betting takes method of victory a step further by allowing you to bet on which fighter wins and in which specific round the fight ends. For example, you could bet on Pereira to win in Round 1, Round 2, and so on. Because you’re predicting both the winner and the exact round, the payouts on round betting are typically very high. This bet type is best suited for fights where you have a strong opinion on not just who wins but how quickly the fight ends.

Parlays

A UFC card is structured with early prelims, prelims, and a main card, often totaling 12 or more fights in a single night. That structure is what makes UFC parlays so popular – you can work your way through the card and build a ticket that runs from the first fight of the evening through the main event. A common strategy is stacking three or four heavy moneyline favorites, since individual -300 or -400 favorites don’t offer much return on their own but combining them into one parlay creates a much more attractive payout. The risk, of course, is that one upset anywhere on the card kills the entire ticket.

Prop Bets

Beyond method of victory and round betting, sportsbooks offer a variety of other UFC props. Common options include fight to go the distance (yes/no), whether the fight ends inside the distance, total knockdowns, total takedowns, and fighter-specific props like significant strikes landed. Props add an extra layer of excitement to each fight and allow you to wager on specific aspects of the matchup you feel strongly about.

Live Betting (In-Play)

The break between rounds is where smart UFC live bettors make their money. You’ve just watched five minutes of action and can see that one fighter’s eye is swelling shut, or that the wrestler’s takedowns are being stuffed. The live odds adjust based on the scorecards and visible damage, and if you disagree with where the sportsbook has set the line heading into the next round, there’s value to be found. You can bet on adjusted fight winner odds, individual round winners, and in-play props. Unlike team sports where there are dozens of variables, a UFC fight comes down to two people, which makes it easier to read the situation in real time and act on what you’re seeing.

UFC Betting Odds

It is important to understand the odds when placing a bet on a UFC fight because you always have to factor in the risk vs reward. The American odds format is the most common format found at online sportsbooks. Here’s another example:

Conor McGregor -130
Michael Chandler +110

In this example a $100 bet on Chandler would win $110 if he comes out with a victory, while a bettor would have to risk $130 to win $100 betting on Conor McGregor. Notice how close the odds are here compared to the Prochazka vs Pereira example above – this tells you the sportsbook views the McGregor vs Chandler fight as a much tighter matchup.

How To Bet On UFC Online – Step By Step

Whichever option you choose, the process of getting started is similar. Here’s a general guide.

Step 2. Check The Age and Location Rules

Every platform has its own eligibility requirements. Most prediction markets require you to be at least 18, while licensed sportsbooks require you to be 21 in most states and physically located in the state where they are licensed.

Step 3. Create and Verify Your Account

Sign up with your legal name, date of birth and address. Regulated platforms are required to verify your identity, so you may be asked for the last four digits of your Social Security number or a photo of your ID.

UFC Betting Tips

UFC betting is as much about understanding the fighters as it is about understanding the odds. Here are some fight-specific strategies, and you can find broader betting advice on our general online betting tips page.

  • Compare Odds – This tip is important when betting on any sport, but with UFC fights especially you will often find dramatically different odds at different sportsbooks. If you have accounts at more than one sportsbook, place your wagers at the one offering the most favorable odds on the outcome you expect.
  • Understand Skill Set Matchups – Certain fighting styles match up favorably against others. A fighter with excellent wrestling and takedown ability has a big advantage over a striker with poor takedown defense. Watch past fights and try to figure out what game plan each fighter will use and whether it will be effective against their opponent’s style.
  • Look For Value In Method of Victory – You can often find great payouts on likely outcomes in the method of victory market. For example, betting on a fight going to decision between two fighters with strong defense, or an early KO when one fighter is clearly a level above their opponent, can offer much better value than simply betting the moneyline.
  • Consider Weight Cuts – How a fighter looks at the weigh-ins can be a useful indicator. Fighters who have a tough weight cut may be drained on fight night, which can affect their cardio and chin. Pay attention to weigh-in results and how fighters have looked at previous weigh-ins at the same weight class.
  • Manage Your Bankroll – Set a per-card budget before the event starts and stick to it. With 12+ fights on a typical UFC card it’s tempting to bet on every single one, but spreading your money too thin usually leads to sloppy picks on fights you haven’t properly researched. Focus on 3-5 fights per card where you have a genuine edge.

UFC Betting FAQ

Is it legal to bet on UFC fights online in the United States?

Sports betting laws vary by state in the United States. More than 35 states plus Washington, D.C. have legalized sports betting with licensed sportsbooks, prediction markets operate under federal oversight in most states, and offshore sportsbooks accept bets from across the country but are not licensed by any US state. Check out our USA sports betting guide for a detailed breakdown of the options in your state.

Where can I bet on UFC fights?

In states with legal sports betting, licensed sportsbooks such as DraftKings, FanDuel and BetMGM offer odds on every UFC card. Prediction markets are an option in many other states. See the options above for more detail.

What is the most popular type of UFC bet?

The moneyline (fight winner) bet is by far the most popular type of UFC wager. You simply pick which fighter will win the fight and get paid out based on the odds. Method of victory and total rounds are the next most popular bet types because they allow you to profit from a more specific prediction about how the fight will play out.

What is the difference between a 3-round and 5-round UFC fight?

Standard UFC fights are 3 rounds of 5 minutes each. Title fights and most main events are 5 rounds of 5 minutes each. This affects the total rounds over/under – a 3-round fight will typically have a total set at 1.5 or 2.5 rounds, while a 5-round fight will usually be set at 3.5 or 4.5 rounds. It also affects method of victory odds since there is more time for a fight to end by finish in a 5-round bout.

What does “inside distance” mean in UFC betting?

Inside distance means the fight ends before the final bell – it combines both KO/TKO and submission finishes into one bet. If you bet on a fighter to win inside the distance, they must finish the fight by any method other than a judges’ decision for the bet to win. It’s a good option when you’re confident a fighter will get a finish but aren’t sure whether it will be a knockout or submission.

Can I bet on UFC fights while they are in progress?

Yes, live betting allows you to place wagers on UFC fights while they are happening. The odds update in real time based on the action in the octagon. UFC is one of the most exciting sports for live betting because momentum can shift with a single punch, takedown, or submission attempt, creating value opportunities between rounds and during the action itself.

What is a same game parlay in UFC?

You can build a parlay from a single fight by combining the winner, method of victory, and total rounds onto one ticket. For example, Pereira to win by KO/TKO and the fight to end under 2.5 rounds. Because you’re predicting multiple specific outcomes within the same fight, the combined payout is much larger than any individual bet. SGPs work especially well in UFC because the bet types are closely connected – if you think a knockout is coming early, that naturally correlates with the fight going under on rounds.
