The NHL season begins tomorrow, and this means there are a lot of regular season prop bets that you can wager on prior to puck drop of the first game. Many of these props will stay throughout the season, with the odds changing, but some may not so you should take advantage now.
If you are from Canada you can find some solid NHL player props by heading to Bodog.ca and clicking on ‘NHL Player Props’ in the hockey drop down menu at the sportsbook. Americans should go to Bovada.lv and the same props can be found.
NHL Award Props
You can bet on each of the main NHL regular season awards. I will look at a few and include the odds and my thoughts on who will win the award.
Norris Trophy
- Erik Karlsson 4/1
- Zdeno Chara 9/2
- Shea Weber 13/2
- Kris Letang 7/1
- Alex Pietrangelo 10/1
- Ryan Suter 10/1
Karlsson won this award last year and I think he deserves to once again be the favorite to win it again. The Sens will be relying even more on Karlsson this year as their defensive corp has been hurt with the injury to Jared Cowen. You can expect to see Karlsson killing penalties this year and playing upwards of 30 minutes a game. If he can once again lead defenseman scoring by 30+ points he will no doubt win the Norris again.
Vezina Trophy

- Jonathan Quick 5/1
- Pekka Rinne 15/2
- Ryan Miller 8/1
Lundqvist is the front runner to once again claim the Vezina this year. I personally like Quick to win it this year though. I think the addition of Nash might hurt the Rangers defensively, while getting rid of Jack Johnson last year helps the Kings back end quite a bit. This should translate into Quick being a monster for the Kings this season.
Art Ross Trophy

I love Malkins odds of 5/1 here. He won this award by a mile last season and has been putting up points in the KHL already this season. People give Crosby too much credit. Malkin is the best scorer in the league and he will prove it again.
Rocket Richard Trophy

- Evgeni Malkin 11/2

- Rick Nash 10/1
Stamkos will own this trophy for the foreseeable future.
Hart Memorial Trophy

Malkin once again has some very good odds here. If Crosby and Malkin both have big years it will be hard for either of them to win this award though, but Crosby can be out of action in a second. I still like Malkin here.
Bodog also has over/unders on total points for many of the notable players in the league this season. Here are a couple examples:
Martin St. Louis over/under 45.5
Claude Giroux over/under 52.5
The players must play 11 games for the action to count, but looking at some of these over/unders there may be some value in picking unders and hoping for an injury after the 11 games. Crosby is at 60.5, which he will be hard pressed to achieve even if he plays the full 48 game season, while if he gets hurt again he will almost certainly be under.
