The 2025 NBA Finals get underway this Thursday, June 5th (full schedule). The Indiana Pacers ran through the Eastern Conference playoffs dropping just 4 games en route to the finals even though they were underdogs in the second round (vs Cavs) and Conference Finals (vs Knicks). This will be the Pacers first NBA Finals appearance since 2000, when they lost to the Lakers in 6 games. The Pacers have never won an NBA title in their history. Coming out of the West is the top seeded, Oklahoma City Thunder. The Thunder finished atop the league in the regular season with 68 wins, and they’ve gone 12-4 in the playoffs with their tight 7 game series vs the Nuggets in the second round being their only scare en route to the finals. The Thunder have also never won an NBA Title, so we will have a first time champion this year. The Thunder were most recently in the NBA Finals in 2012 (losing to the Heat) when they had Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Russell Westbrook.
The OKC Thunder are big 5-1 favorites heading into the finals. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (this years MVP) is playing great basketball and the depth and defense of the team has been on display all playoffs.
Tyrese Haliburton and Pascal Siakam are playing great basketball, and you cannot count out the Pacers who are now accustomed to be the underdog entering a playoff series.
