The 2026 NFL season will run from September 9th, 2026 to January 10th, 2027 with each team playing 17 regular season games across 18 weeks. The playoffs will then begin on January 16th, 2027 with Super Bowl LXI scheduled to take place on February 14th at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
The NFL is the most wagered on sport in the United States. The sports betting industry has gone mainstream over the past several years, and I’m expecting the number of NFL bettors to continue to increase this year, including several more bettors from both Washington and Idaho.
For this reason I wanted to add this page to help you quickly and easily place your first NFL wager online. Below I will touch on the betting situation in Washington and Idaho, outline the most popular NFL bets and explain where you can bet.
Where To Bet
Sports betting is not legal in Idaho. Washington only allows sports betting at tribal casinos, either in person or on a casino’s app while you are on the property. Where it is legal, you generally must be 21 or older and physically located in the state to place a bet.
Other options include prediction markets such as Kalshi and Polymarket, daily fantasy sports apps where they are available, and offshore sportsbooks, which accept US customers but are not licensed or regulated by any state. Our guide to sports betting in the USA breaks down every option.
NFL Betting in Washington and Idaho
Sports betting is legal in Washington, but only at tribal casinos while on tribal land. There are currently over 15 casinos in the state that take in-person sports bets. Washington residents who want to bet on the NFL online from the comfort of their own homes, must do so through an offshore betting site that is licensed and regulated outside of the USA.
Sports betting is not legal in Idaho and that does not look to be changing anytime soon. That said, Idaho residents also have the option to bet through offshore betting sites that accept US players.
Popular NFL Betting Options
Below I will look at the odds for the season opening game between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots, a rematch of Super Bowl LX, and explain the spread, money line and over/under odds.
Point Spread
The point spread odds are shown in the first column of the above screenshot. In this example the Seahawks are 3 point favorites (-3), while the Patriots are 3 point underdogs (+3).
- Seahawks spread bets win if the Seahawks win the game by 4 or more points.
- Patriots spread bets win if the Patriots win the game outright, or the Seahawks win by 1 or 2 points.
- If the Seahawks win by exactly 3 points then the spread bets would push (be returned).
Money Line
The second column shows the money line odds. This is simply a bet on which team will win the game. The odds indicate the risk vs reward of a bet on either outcome.
- Bet $175 on the Seahawks to win $100 (payout of $275).
- Bet $100 on the Patriots to win $150 (payout of $250).
Over/Under
The over/under, also known as the total, is a bet on the number of points scored in the game by both teams. The over/under is set at 44.5 in the above example.
- Over bets win if 45 or more points are scored.
- Under bets win if 44 or fewer points are scored.
Bet On NFL Games Online – 3 Step Guide
The process is similar on every regulated platform. Follow these three steps to get started.
Step 1. Pick Your Betting Option
In Washington, you can bet on NFL games at a tribal casino sportsbook, or on the casino’s app while you are on the property. From Idaho, where there are no licensed sportsbooks, prediction markets such as Kalshi and Polymarket and daily fantasy apps are the main options for NFL games.
