The Sugar Bowl is played in early January every year at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.  The SEC Champion participates in the Sugar Bowl unless they are taking part in the BCS National Championship game.

Sugar Bowl Betting Options

The most common betting options for the Sugar Bowl are spread betting and over/under betting.  Let’s take a look at these betting options using 2012’s Sugar Bowl game as an example.

Michigan -3
Virginia Tech +3

Michigan was 3 point favorites heading into the game, which meant you could wager on Michigan to win by 4 or more points or you could wager on Virginia Tech to either win the game straight up or lose by 2 or fewer.  The game ended 23-20 for Michigan, so the spread was matched.  This meant that all spread bets were pushed.

Over/Under 51.5

The over/under for the game was 51.5 and as you just saw there were 43 total points scored in the 2012 Sugar Bowl.  Therefore anyone who bet the under would have won some cash.

In tight games like the Sugar Bowl is always anticipated to be money line betting is another solid option.  Money line betting simply involves wagering on which team will win the game outright.  A money line wager on Michigan would have won in 2012, but they were slight favorites so you would have won a bit less than you wagered.
