2017 Carolina Panthers Futures Odds (Super Bowl, NFC South and More)

In 2016, the Carolina Panthers went from Super Bowl finalists in the previous season to the worst team in the NFC South in what was one of the most surprising turn of events in the NFL since they returned most of their starters from their Super Bowl season.

This year, the Panthers hope to turn things around and once again become contenders in the NFC. The team will be looking to 2015 MVP Cam Newton to return to form after a disappointing season in which he threw 19 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, which was a far cry from his MVP season in which he threw 35 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Carolina’s defense, which was one of the best in 2015, also needs to play better than they did last year when they allowed opponents to score 25.1 points per game, which was good for 26th in the league last year.

In this article I’m going to look at the various futures bets you can make on the Atlanta Falcons 2017 season.  I’ll look at their Super Bowl odds, as well as their odds to win the NFC East, total wins and their week 1 game.

I’ll be using the odds from Bovada.lv, our top rated sportsbook for American bettors (full review here).  The odds may vary at different sites.

To Win Super Bowl

  • Panthers +2200

Carolina’s freefall last year has led to doubts as to whether the team is a legitimate contender, and left some wondering if their Super Bowl run two years ago was a fluke. Despite the doubts, I think the Panthers will be one of the top teams in the NFC because they still have their core intact and the team will be trying to prove their legitimacy to their doubters which is why I think they are a bargain at +2200.

Outside of their division, Carolina will also have to contend with the Green Bay Packers (+750) and Detroit Lions (+6600) who they will face in weeks 15 and 5 respectively.

To Win NFC South

  • Atlanta Falcons +170
  • Carolina Panthers +250
  • New Orleans Saints +260
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers +350

Carolina will have to contend with the Atlanta Falcons, who displaced them as NFC South champs last year, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who added Desean Jackson in the offseason and are expected to be improved.

The New Orleans Saints also got better in the offseason with the addition of Adrian Peterson, who was released by the Minnesota Vikings in the offseason. If Peterson returns to his old form, the Saints can also pose problems for the Panthers.

Regular Season Total Wins

  • Over 8.5 -175
  • Under 8.5 +145

The Panthers have enough talent to win at least 10 games, even if they have stiff competition in their division. Their schedule only has four teams that made the playoffs last season so I don’t see any reason why they shouldn’t win at least nine games.

Panthers Week 1 Betting Lines

The Panthers will open up the season on the road against the San Francisco 49ers. The point spread for the game is -6 in favor of the Panthers. The over/under on total points scored is 48 at -110.

The 49ers were one of the worst teams in the NFL last season and didn’t do much in the offseason to make anyone believe they will be better than they were last year. This is probably the best bet on opening day so take the Panthers on the spread.

Play: Panthers -6
