Bet On The 2023 Haskell Stakes – Morning Line Odds and Picks

The Haskell Stakes is the biggest race that comes to Monmouth Park Racetrack in New Jersey each year.  There is a nice $1,000,000 purse and the Grade 1 race is part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge series that rewards the winner with a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Classic this November.

This years race features three high quality horses in Arabian Knight (5/2), Tapit Trice (3/1) and Kentucky Derby winner, Mage (3/1). Arabian Knight has won his two career races, but has not raced since his Southwest Stakes win in January. Tapit Trice was the race day favorite heading into the Kentucky Derby this year after winning the Blue Grass Stakes in April, but he finished 7th at the Derby and 3rd at the Belmont Stakes. Mage won the Kentucky Derby, but followed up the victory with an underwhelming third place finish at the Preakness Stakes.

In this article I will look at the morning line odds for the 2023 Haskell Stakes and also provide a 3 step guide to getting your bets in on this race come Saturday.

2023 Haskell Stakes Odds

Here are the morning line odds and post positions for this years edition of the Haskell Stakes.  It’s important to remember that your bet will not be fixed at these odds.  The odds will change throughout the day depending on the amount of money that comes in on each horse.

  1. Geaux Rocket Ride 9/2
  2. Awesome Strong 30/1
  3. Salute the Stars 8/1
  4. Mage 3/1
  5. Tapit Trice 3/1
  6. Howgreatisnate 20/1
  7. Extra Anejo 5/1
  8. Arabian Knight 5/2

My Pick

I like Tapit Trice to win this race at odds of 3/1. As mentioned earlier, he was the favorite to win the Kentucky Derby after Forte was scratched on race day. He didn’t have his best races in the Kentucky Derby or Belmont Stakes, but he won the Blue Grass Stakes at this same distance with a strong race. He’s more experienced than Arabian Knight and I think this distance is where he finds his best results.

It’s possible that Tapit Trice’s odds are shorter than the morning line come post time on Saturday. I will be trying to lock him in at fixed odds prior to race day.

At the time of this article (July 20th) Tapit Trice has fixed odds of +450 in the BetOnline.ag sportsbook.

Play: Tapit Trice 3/1
