The Haskell Stakes is the biggest race that comes to Monmouth Park Racetrack in New Jersey each year. There is a nice $1,000,000 purse and the Grade 1 race is part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge series that rewards the winner with a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Classic on October 31st at Keeneland.
This years race features Preakness Stakes winner, Napoleon Solo, who shares favouritism with Blue Grass Stakes winner Further Ado at morning line odds of 5/2 and 2/1 respectively. The other top contenders in the seven horse field are Iron Honor, The Puma, and Ocelli.
In this article I will look at the morning line odds for the 2026 Haskell Stakes and also provide a 3 step guide to getting your bets in on this race come Saturday.

My Pick
I like Napoleon Solo to win this race at odds of 5/2. He won the Preakness Stakes back in May by a length and a quarter over Iron Honor, who he meets again here, and he was a Grade 1 winner at two in the Champagne Stakes. The big thing for me is the shape of this race. Only seven horses go to post and there isn’t much genuine early speed in the field, which suits a colt who likes to press the pace. The Haskell has historically rewarded horses sitting within a few lengths of the lead, and Paco Lopez knows this track as well as anyone. Further Ado has the faster figures on paper and is the one they all have to beat, but he was well beaten as favourite in the Kentucky Derby and I’m happy to take him on at a shorter price.
