This Saturday, Del Mar Racetrack in California will play host to the 2026 Pacific Classic. There’s a lot on the line for the 11 horses competing with the Pacific Classic being a G1 race with a million dollar prize pool and a ‘win and you’re in’ spot in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
Knightsbridge (5/2), Forged Steel (5-1), and Hit Show (6-1) are the three favorites leading into the race.

I’m taking Hit Show at odds of 6-1. In a race without a standout, I’ll side with the horse that has already proven he belongs at the top level over this exact trip. Hit Show pulled off a huge upset to win the 2025 Dubai World Cup, run at 2,000 meters (about a mile and a quarter), so class and stamina at the Pacific Classic distance are not in question. He’s also the highest earner in the field, and he ships in off a runner-up finish in the Grade 2 Suburban at Saratoga. Trainer Brad Cox keeps regular rider Florent Geroux aboard, a partnership that already produced the biggest win of this horse’s career. The favorite, Knightsbridge, is stretching out to a mile and a quarter for the first time, and I’d rather take the extra value on a horse that has already done it against better company.
