This Saturday, Del Mar Racetrack in California will play host to the 2020 Pacific Classic. There’s a lot on the line for the 6 horses competing with the Pacific Classic being a G1 race with a $500,000 prize pool and a ‘win and you’re in’ spot in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
Maximum Security, coming off a win at the San Diego Handicap in July is the favorite in the field at odds of 1-1. The other two main contenders in the Pacific Classic, Higher Power (3-1) and Midcourt (7-2) actually also raced in the San Diego Handicap, finishing 3rd and 2nd, respectively, so we will be treated to a bit of a rematch this Saturday.
In this article I will provide the morning line odds for the 2020 Pacific Classic and also give you my winner pick for the race. At the bottom of the page you will also find a simple 3 step guide to getting your bets placed on the Pacific Classic this Saturday if you live in the USA.
2020 Pacific Classic Odds
Here are the morning line odds (and post positions) for this years Pacific Classic. The odds will change throughout race day depending on the amount of money that comes in on each horse.
- Midcourt 7-2
- Higher Power 3-1
- Mirinaque 10-1
- Dark Vader 12-1
- Maximum Security 1-1
- Sharp Samurai 8-1
Maximum Security is the favorite to take down this years Pacific Classic. He has won his last five races, including defeating both Midcourt and Higher Power at last months San Diego Handicap. I expect his odds to shorten significantly leading up to post time.
I have to take Maximum Security at odds of 1-1. He defeated his main two competitors, Midcourt and Higher Power, last month, and although it was a photo finish with Midcourt, Maximum Security was clearly the fastest horse and he should improve in this race considering the San Diego Handicap was his first race since February.
I really don’t see anyone defeating Maximum Security this Saturday. He should cruise to victory. I’m not worried about the longer distance of 1 1/4 miles because he looked great at last years Kentucky Derby in a race he would have won had he not been DQ’d.
Play: Maximum Security 1-1
Maximum Security, Higher Power and Midcourt all ran in the San Diego Handicap in July. Here’s a video so you can see the form of these three favorites:
