New England Patriots Analysis…
The Patriots will be trying to extend their road winning streak to 11 with a win against the Jets on Sunday, but the team will need to play defense like they did last week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
New England has been great on offense this season, thanks to Tom Brady, who leads the league in passing yards and is third in touchdown passes this season. The Patriots offense is scoring 29.6 points per game, which is third in the league.
Even though they have been able to put up a lot of points, New England’s offense hasn’t been balanced this season thanks to the team letting LeGarrette Blount, who led the league in rushing touchdowns last season, leave via free agency.
This season, the Patriots are averaging 99 rushing yards per game, which is 18th in the league.
New England’s run game isn’t the only problem the team has had this season, their defense has also been pretty bad this year. The Patriots are allowing opponents to score 28.4 points per game, giving them the 30th ranked defense in the NFL this season.
Despite their defensive issues, the Patriots are still a very dangerous team, and they will be even more dangerous on offense this week with tight end Rob Gronkowski expected to play after missing their last three games.
New York Jets Analysis…
After purging their roster during the offseason, the Jets were considered one of the worst teams in the league this season, with some wondering if they will give the Detroit Lions a run for their money for the worst record in NFL history.
Despite the naysayers, the Jets apparently don’t plan on finishing with the worst record in the league this season and have won their last three games, after a 0-2 start to the season.
Even though two of those wins came against two of the worst teams in the league, one of those wins came against the Jacksonville Jaguars, who have been very good this season.
Even though the Jets have had some success against the Patriots at home and have a 4-1 record ATS in the past five meetings, they will need to do a better job taking care of the ball or else this game will quickly turn in to a blowout.
Expect New York’s defense to be aggressive and rush Tom Brady as much as possible to try and force him to make mistakes. The Jets will also focus on running the ball in this game because the Patriots run defense is very shaky and running the ball will help them control the clock and keep the Patriots defense on the sidelines.
Even though the Patriots haven’t had a lot of recent success at the Meadowlands, the return of Gronkowski will make a big difference for the offence and the Patriots will cover the spread.
