They currently sit 8-6 and they have their playoff destiny in their own hands. The Steelers on the other hand lost a heartbreaker to the Dallas Cowboys and now sit 7-7. This is a must win game for the Steelers as their playoff hopes would be slashed if they don’t pull it out.

Playoff Picture
For the Steelers the playoffs begin in Week 15. A loss to the Bengals will eliminate them from contention. On the other side of the coin a win from the Bengals will guarantee their participation in the post season.
If the Steelers win, each team will still have hope for the post season. But if the Steelers win against the Bengals and against the Browns they will have the tiebreak over the Bengals, so both teams really do control their own destinies at this point in the season.
There is also a very slight possibility both teams can sneak into the playoffs, but that would require the Colts losing to the Chiefs next weak, and seeing as the game is quite meaningful to them I simply can’t see that happening.
Combine that with the fact that the Steelers will almost definitely beat the Browns if they have their playoff lives on the line, that brings us to this Steelers vs Bengals game basically being for the last wildcard spot in the AFC.
Thoughts
The Steelers need to step up and play much better than they have of late. Pittsburgh has lost 4 of their last 5, and an overtime win over the lowly Chiefs 6 games ago, has kept them in the playoff hunt and kept them from winning only 1 of their last 6. The Steelers have lost to some bad teams including the Browns and Chargers over this stretch and their only win was over the Ravens who are slumping badly. It makes you wonder if the Steelers are going to be able to turn on the switch and beat a solid Bengals team, who has basically done the opposite and won 5 of their last 6 games (albeit over mostly inferior opponents).
