The Dubai World Cup may have lost his title as the “richest horse race in the world” thanks to the $16 million Pegasus World Cup that took place earlier this year, but at $10,000,000 it’s still an extremely rich event that attracts all of the top horses in the world. Gun Runner, who won both the recent Breeders Cup Classic and Pegasus World Cup races is not expected to be in the field and that leaves West Coast, who finished second to Gun Runner at the Pegasus World Cup, as the significant favorite.
The Dubai World Cup (official website here) is considered one of the most prestigious races of the season and this year fans will be able to watch the race in the United States on NBC Sports.
In this article I will look at the early odds for the Dubai World Cup and also provide you with a three step guide to placing your Dubai World Cup bets online leading up to the race.
2018 Dubai World Cup Odds
Here are the current odds for the race from Bovada.lv. These are futures odds and will remain locked in if you place your bets before race day. If you place your bet on race day in the Bovada Racebook then the odds will use the parimutuel betting format which allows for fluctuation depending on the amount of money coming in on each horse.
As you can see West Coast is a big favorite heading into the race with the odds indicating a just under 50% chance of winning the race. Talismanic, Forever Unbridled and Gunnevera are the closest challengers, but if West Coast has a poor outing it’s really anyone’s race.
**The odds above will change as we move closer to race day. Visit Bovada.lv to see the up to date odds.
I don’t see how I can pick against West Coast in this race. He had won 5 races in a row before failing to beat Gun Runner in both the Breeders Cup Classic and Pegasus World Cup in his two most recent outings, but nobody outside of Arrogate has beaten Gun Runner in the past couple years.
I fully expect West Coast to win this race easily. His top competition is not used to the distance of 1 1/4 miles with Talismanic (1 1/2m) and Forever Unbridled (1 1/8m) used to either longer or shorter distances respectively.
You can see in this clip below that Gun Runner and West Coast were far ahead of the field at the Pegasus, which I think shows how West Coast will match up with the field at this Dubai World Cup as well.
