The Florida Derby is scheduled to take place this Saturday, March 27th at Gulfstream Park racetrack. This is the last chance for horses to pick up qualifying points for the 2021 Kentucky Derby, so there is a lot on the line in addition to the $750,000 prize pool.
In this article I will outline the morning line odds for the 11 horses set to race on Saturday, give my favorite betting pick, and provide a simple three step guide you can follow to get your Florida Derby bets placed online.
2021 Florida Derby Betting Odds
Here are the morning line odds and post positions for this years Florida Derby. The odds will change leading up to the race depending on the amount of money wagered on each horse.
- Nova Rags 12-1
- Quantum Leap 20-1
- Jirafales 30-1
- Southern Passage 30-1
- Known Agenda 5-1
- Sigiloso 30-1
- Greatest Honour 6-5
- Soup and Sandwich 20-1
- Collaborate 6-1
- Spielberg 4-1
- Papetu 15-1
Greatest Honour is the favorite at odds of 6/5. He’s expected to win the race nearly 50% of the time. Spielberg at 4-1 and Known Agenda at 5-1 are his main competition, with Collaborate (6-1) as the only other horse coming in shorter than 10-1.
I think the odds are too short on Greatest Honour. Yes, he’s won 3 races in a row heading into the Florida Derby, but this is still a big step up in competition for him and the slightly longer distance is a concern considering his three wins were at a distance of 1 1/16 miles. He has the ability to win, but at 6/5 with several questions yet to answer, I’m going to pass on the favorite.
I like Known Agenda at 5-1. He’s coming off a win in a race with the same distance as the Florida Derby, and he won that race with a very respectable time, while running away from the field. This is a step up in competition so he also has to prove himself, but at 5-1 and having proven he can win at this distance, I’m more willing to take a shot on him than Greatest Honour.
Play: Known Agenda 5-1
