The Florida Derby is scheduled to take place this Saturday, March 28th at Gulfstream Park racetrack. With the coronavirus forcing the majority of sports to shut down to close out March, the Florida Derby is soldiering on, and because of this I’m expecting a lot of viewers and betting action on the race this Saturday.
In this article I will outline the morning line odds for the 12 horses set to race on Saturday, give my favorite betting pick, and provide a simple three step guide you can follow to get your Florida Derby bets placed online.

2020 Florida Derby Betting Odds
Here are the morning line odds and post positions for this years Florida Derby. The odds will change leading up to the race depending on the amount of money wagered on each horse.
- As Seen On TV 12-1
- Shivaree 30-1
- Disc Jockey 20-1
- Soros 30-1
- Gouverneur Morris 8-1
- Ajaaweed 20-1
- Tiz the Law 6/5
- My First Grammy 50-1
- Independence Hall 9/2
- Candy Tycoon 20-1
- Sassy But Smart 50-1
- Ete Indien 4-1
Tiz the Law is the favorite at odds of 6/5. He’s expected to win the race nearly 50% of the time. Ete Indien at 4-1 and Independence Hall at 9/2 are his main competition, with Gouverneur Morris as the only other horse coming in shorter than 10-1.
I think the odds are too short on Tiz the Law. Yes, he’s won 3 of his 4 career races and he was very fast in the Holy Bull race on February 1st, but 6-5 is fairly short odds for a horse that has really had one A+ performance in his career.
I like As Seen On TV at 12-1. He’s been a fast horse in his last three races, with a more consistent speed factor than Tiz the Law. He hasn’t won in 2020, which I do think is an issue, but he has the speed to compete, and coming out of the first post position with three slower horses to his right, he should be able to run the race he wants. I think at 12-1 he has value.
