Bet On the MLB – San Francisco Giants @ Los Angeles Dodgers September 23rd

My predictions record on the season is now 14-6. You can see my previous picks here. I like the Giants-Dodgers match-up this evening.

Tonight’s chosen match-up: San Francisco Giants (85-71) @ Los Angeles Dodgers (89-68)

The San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers play game 2 of an important 3 game set tonight. Last night the Giants claimed a 5-2 victory in 13 innings. The team scored 3 runs in the top of the 13th. Reliever Santiago Casilla ended up getting the win as he pitched 2 innings while giving up no earned runs on no hits. Hunter Strickland notched his 1st save of the season. Starter Jake Peavy lasted 7 innings as he gave up 2 earned runs on 4 hits with 4 strikeouts. The win stopped a 3 game losing skid. The Giants are now 3.5 games behind the Dodgers in the NL West and are tied with the Pirates for 1 of 2 wildcard spots. With a win tonight and a loss by Milwaukee the team would clinch a postseason birth. Their starting pitcher tonight is lefty Madison Bumgarner. Bumgarner has an 18-9 record with a 2.91 era and 214 strikeouts in 210 innings pitched. His last start, on September 17 at Arizona, he ended up with a no-decision as he pitched 6 innings while allowed 2 earned runs on 7 hits. Prior to that no-decision he had won his last 5 starts. With the loss last night the Dodgers have lost 4 of their last 7 games. Kevin Correia made his first bullpen appearance and got saddled with the loss as he pitched 1 inning and gave up 3 earned runs on 3 hits. It was his 17th loss of the season. Starter Dan Haren pitched 7 innings as he allowed 1 earned run on 1 hit with 7 strikeouts. Left fielder Carl Crawford hit his 8th home run of the season. The team used 7 pitchers in the game. Their starting pitcher tonight is right-handed Zack Greinke. Greinke has a 15-8 record with a 2.76 era and 196 strikeouts in 189.1 innings pitched. In his last outing, a start on September 18th at the Cubs, he got a no-decision as he pitched 5 innings while allowing 4 earned runs on 9 hits. He has 3 wins and 2 no-decisions in his last 5 starts.

The Giants are 9-8 versus the Dodgers this season. The Giants are 43-36 on the road this season. The Dodgers are 40-36 at home this season.

Giants vs Dodgers Prediction

This should be an excellent pitching match-up between Bumgarner and Greinke. Runs should be few and far between if these guys have their best stuff tonight. I like the Dodgers as Greinke goes for a 5-0 record against the Giants this season.
