Bet On the MLB – St. Louis Cardinals @ Arizona Diamondbacks September 26th

My predictions record on the season is now 15-6. You can see my previous picks here. I like the Cardinals-Diamondbacks match-up this evening.

Tonight’s chosen match-up: St. Louis Cardinals (88-71) @ Arizona Diamondbacks (63-96)

The St. Louis Cardinals and Arizona Diamondbacks begin a 3-game series tonight. The Cardinals have lost 2 straight games. On Wednesday they were defeated 3-1 at the Cubs. Starter John Lackey got his 10th loss of the season as he pitched 6.2 innings while allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits. After an 8-0 win on Monday versus the Cubs the Cardinals were outscored 7-4 in the final 2 games of the series. With the 2 consecutive losses the team is now only 1 game ahead of the Pirates for the NL Central lead. Their starting pitcher tonight is right-handed Michael Wacha. Wacha has a 5-6 record with a 3.18 era and 90 strikeouts in 102 innings pitched. His last outing, a start on September 20th versus the Reds, he ended up with a no-decision as he pitched 4.2 innings while allowing 2 earned runs on 6 hits. The Arizona Diamondbacks are playing out the final 3 games of a very miserable season. The Diamondbacks have lost 2 straight and 8 of their last 9 games. In those 8 losses they’ve been outscored 49-20. On Wednesday the team lost 2-1 at Minnesota. Starter Vidal Nuno got saddled with his 12th loss of the season. Nuno pitched 5 innings while allowing 2 earned runs on 3 hits. The team is in last place in the NL West, 28 games behind the division-winning Dodgers. Their starting pitcher tonight is right-handed Trevor Cahill. Cahill has a 3-12 record with a 5.55 era and 102 strikeouts in 105.1 innings pitched. He has 4 losses in his last 5 starts. In those 4 losses he gave up a total of 19 earned runs.

The Cardinals are 3-0 versus the Diamondbacks this season. In the 3 wins the Cardinals outscored the Diamondbacks 12-4. The Cardinals are 37-41 on the road this season. The Diamondbacks are 32-46 at home this season.

Cardinals vs Diamondbacks Prediction

If the Cardinals sweep this series they’ll be the NL Central Division champions for the 2nd year in a row. I don’t see the Diamondbacks putting up much fight tonight when it matters to the Cardinals.

Take the Cardinals -160 (
