Bet On the MLB – Washington Nationals @ San Francisco Giants – NLDS Game 3 October 6th

After a good regular season record my playoff predictions thus far have been off as I’m 0-3. You can see my previous picks here. Today is game 3 of the NLDS series between the Nationals and Giants.

2014 NLDS Game 3: Washington Nationals @ San Francisco Giants – Giants lead 2-0

The Washington Nationals’ postseason is on the brink of elimination as they play at San Francisco today down two games to zero. Meanwhile on the other side the San Francisco Giants are one win away from advancing to the National League Championship series for the 3rd time in 5 years. In game 1, last Friday, the Giants were victorious 3-2. In the game the Giants out-hit the Nationals 12 to 6. Starter Jake Peavy notched the win as he pitched 5.2 innings as he allowed no earned runs on 2 hits. He also walked 3 and struck out 3. Closer Santiago Casilla picked up the save, his first of the postseason. Casilla pitched 1 inning as he gave up no earned runs and no hits. 1st baseman Brandon Belt was 2 for 4 with 1 rbi. 2nd baseman Joe Panik was 2 for 5 with 1 rbi. Catcher Buster Posey was 1 for 4 with 1 rbi. Nationals starter Stephen Strasburg got saddled with the game 1 loss. Strasburg pitched 5 innings while allowing 1 earned run on 8 hits. In the loss left-fielder Bryce Harper was 2 for 4 with a solo home run. In game 2, on Saturday night, the Giants prevailed 2-1 in 18 innings. The game tied the postseason mark for most innings in a game and broke the record for time of game with a game length of 6 hours and 23 minutes. Giants pitcher Yusmeiro Petit picked up the win. Petit pitched 6 innings as he gave up no earned runs on 1 hit. He struck out 7 and walked 3 batters. Hunter Strickland notched the save as he closed out the bottom of the 18th. San Francisco starter Tim Hudson pitched 7.1 innings as he allowed 1 earned run on 7 hits. Hudson struck out 8. Posey was 3 of 6 with 1 walk. Nationals pitcher Tanner Roark got the loss in the 18 inning affair. Roark pitched 2 innings as he allowed earned run on 1 hit. Washington starter Jordan Zimmerman pitched 8.2 innings as he allowed 1 earned run on 3 hits. Zimmerman struck out 6 batters. 3rd baseman Anthony Rendon was 4 of 7 with 1 rbi and a walk. Today the starting pitchers will be right-handed Doug Fister for the Nationals and lefty Madison Bumgarner. During the regular season Fister had a 16-6 record with a 2.41 era and 98 strikeouts in 164 innings pitched. He is 4-0 in his last 4 starts. In the 4 starts he allowed a combined 4 earned runs. Bumgarner is 1-0 in this year’s postseason. In the Giants wildcard game victory over the Pirates he pitched a complete game shutout.

Nationals vs Giants Prediction

Prior to it starting I expected this series to go the length but the Giants are just a gritty team that is hard to beat in the postseason. They’ll close out the series today behind another gem from Bumgarner.
