The Pegasus World Cup is set to run its sixth annual race this Saturday January 29th at Gulfstream Park in Florida, and it’s once again bringing out the best horses in the world. The Pegasus World Cup is staying firm this year with a $3 million prize pool and no entry fee. The race no longer has the title of “richest horse race in the world”, but the prize pool is plenty big enough to attract some of the top horses in the world. This years field will include the defending champion, Knicks Go, who won the Breeders’ Cup Classic in November, and Life Is Good who is coming off a win in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile. These two horses will be the top contenders on Saturday.
In this article I’ll take a look at the Pegasus World Cup betting odds and also provide you with a step by step guide to placing your Pegasus World Cup bets online leading up to the race.
2022 Pegasus World Cup Odds
Here are the current odds and post positions for the race from Bovada.lv (odds taken on January 26th).
These are futures odds and will remain fixed when you place your bet before the 29th. If you place your wager on race day in the Bovada Racebook then the odds will use the pari-mutuel betting format, which means the odds can move depending on the amount of money coming in on each horse.
I like Knicks Go at odds of +125 to win the race. Knicks Go is the defending champion and he won his final four races in 2021 including the Whitney Stakes and Breeders’ Cup Classic. Knicks Go is considered the fastest horse in the world, and until another horse takes that title from him, I think he’s a good bet in any race at plus-money.
Life Is Good is a quality younger horse with a bright future, but the Pegasus World Cup distance of 1 1/8 miles is a longer distance than he’s run in his 6 race career. He won the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile and I expect him to win the Pegasus World Cup in the future, but I think he needs to get a couple longer races under his belt before we can expect him to defeat the top horse in the world, who has won several races at this distance.
It should be a battle between Knicks Go and Life Is Good, but I expect Knicks Go to pull away down the stretch.
Play: Knicks Go +125
