The Pegasus World Cup is set to run its seventh annual race this Saturday January 28th at Gulfstream Park in Florida, and it’s once again bringing out the best horses in the world. The Pegasus World Cup is staying firm this year with a $3 million prize pool and no entry fee. The race no longer has the title of “richest horse race in the world”, but the prize pool is plenty big enough to attract some of the top horses in the world. This years field will include quality horses including Cyberknife, Defunded and Proxy. These three horses will be the top contenders on Saturday.
In this article I’ll take a look at the Pegasus World Cup betting odds and also provide you with a step by step guide to placing your Pegasus World Cup bets online leading up to the race.
2023 Pegasus World Cup Odds
Here are the current odds and post positions for the race from Bovada.lv (odds taken on January 24th).
These are futures odds and will remain fixed when you place your bet before the 28th. If you place your wager on race day in the Bovada Racebook then the odds will use the pari-mutuel betting format, which means the odds can move depending on the amount of money coming in on each horse.
As you can see Cyberknife, Defunded and Proxy are the three favorites. It would be a surprise if one of these two horses did not win the race.
My Pick
I like Proxy at odds of +550 to win the race. Proxy is coming off a quality win at the Clark Stakes near the end of November, where he put down a solid time of 1:48.89 over 1 1/8 miles on the dirt track at Churchill Downs.
Cyberknife was faster in his Haskell Stakes win in similar conditions, but that win was back in July, and Cyberknife did not win in his most recent three races.
Add in the fact that Proxy is entirely focused on 1 1/8 mile dirt races (his last 5 races have been at this distance on dirt tracks) and I think we should see a peak performing Proxy on Saturday without any surprises.
Play: Proxy +550
Here’s a look at Proxy’s win from the Clark Stakes last November.
