The Pegasus World Cup is set to run its eighth annual race this Saturday January 27th at Gulfstream Park in Florida, and it’s once again bringing out the best horses in the world. The Pegasus World Cup is staying firm this year with a $3 million prize pool and no entry fee. The race no longer has the title of “richest horse race in the world”, but the prize pool is plenty big enough to attract some of the top horses in the world. This years field will include quality horses including National Treasure and First Mission. These two horses will be the top contenders on Saturday.
In this article I’ll take a look at the Pegasus World Cup betting odds and also provide you with a step by step guide to placing your Pegasus World Cup bets online leading up to the race.
2024 Pegasus World Cup Odds
Here are the current odds and post positions for the race from Bovada.lv (odds taken on January 24th).
These are futures odds and will remain fixed when you place your bet before the 27th. If you place your wager on race day in the Bovada Racebook then the odds will use the pari-mutuel betting format, which means the odds can move depending on the amount of money coming in on each horse.
I’m taking a longshot in this race and going with Nimitz Class at odds of 40-1. This is a very fast horse that won 5 of the 9 races he entered in 2023. His best races seem to come at 1 mile, but he won the two 1 1/16 mile races he participated in last year, including posting a very strong time of 1:42.29 to win the John B. Campbell Stakes last February. I’m surprised that Nimitz Class is the longest shot in this field.
I’m not sold on National Treasure or First Mission, the two favorites in this race, so I would be trying to pick a horse from the rest of the field to win this race. National Treasure won the Preakness, but that’s his lone win in his last 9 races. First Mission had a very strong 2023, but the Pegasus World Cup will be a significant step up in competition.
