The biggest horse race of this weekend is the 2024 Travers Stakes, which is held at Saratoga Race Course in New York State. The race is full of high quality horses, including Dornoch, who is coming off of wins at the Belmont Stakes and Haskell Stakes in his last two outings. This years race has a $1.25 million purse.

Thorpedo Anna (3-1) is on a four race winning streak, including wins at the Kentucky Oaks, Acorn Stakes, and American Oaks, in her last three races. The Travers will be the longest race of her career so there are question marks surrounding the distance.
Fierceness (3-1) is coming off a win at the Jim Dandy to bounce back from the 15th place finish at the Kentucky Derby, where Fierceness entered as one of the favorites. Fierceness is a well known horse that also won the Florida Derby this year, and the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile last November.
Sierra Leone (7-2) rounds out the favorites. He finished second to Fierceness at the Jim Dandy last month, and third behind Dornoch in the Belmont Stakes. He’s a fast horse, but he hasn’t won a race in his last three outings.
My Pick
I like Fierceness at odds of 3-1. This horse was the favorite leading into the Kentucky Derby for a reason. One bad race has resulted in a lot of doubt creeping in around Fierceness, and as a bettor we can take advantage of that. If Fierceness had a better showing at the Derby he would easily be the favorite in this race having won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, Florida Derby, and Jim Dandy. I think Fierceness brings his A-game and shows he can perform at this distance of 1 1/4 miles.
