With one million dollars in purse money, the Whitney Stakes is one of the richest horse races in America this year. Add in the fact that it’s a “win and you’re in” qualifier for the Breeders Cup Classic and it’s no wonder that a very strong field of horses head to Saratoga each year to compete in the Whitney.
This year the field is small with just six horses entered, but that includes some of the top horses in the world. Life Is Good (6-5) is the favorite heading into the race with Olympiad (2-1) a close second. Hot Rod Charlie, Americanrevolution and Happy Saver are all contenders, while Zoomer is the lone long shot.
In this article I will give you guys the morning line odds for the six horses in the field, provide a value play that I think could hit and also give you a step by step guide to getting your bets in on the Whitney this Saturday.
The race will be broadcast on NBC from 5-6pm EST on Saturday, August 6th, so place your bets, tune in, and watch the action.
2022 Whitney Stakes Betting Odds
Here are the morning line odds (and post positions) for the six horses competing in this years Whitney Stakes race. It’s important to remember that these odds will change throughout race day depending on the amount of money that is being bet on each horse. If a lot of money comes in on a horse the odds will shorten and vice versa.
- Americanrevolution 5-1
- Hot Rod Charlie 9-2
- Zoomer 30-1
- Olympiad 2-1
- Happy Saver 8-1
- Life Is Good 6-5
As you can see Life Is Good and Olympiad are the two favorites, while Hot Rod Charlie, Americanrevolution, and Happy Saver should also be considered contenders.
Here’s the video of Life Is Good impressive win at the Pegasus World Cup earlier this year.
My Pick
I’m going with Olympiad at odds of 2-1. He’s on an absolute tear this season having won all five of his races in 2022. This includes wins at the Stephen Foster in July and New Orleans Classic in March, that were at the same distance as the Whitney. His time in both of those races was faster than the time of Life Is Good at the Pegasus World Cup. Add in the fact that Life Is Good only has the one career race at this distance and I think Olympiad should be the favorite if it wasn’t for Life Is Good being the more well known horse.
Play: Olympiad 2-1
