As was expected the Canadian and American Women’s Hockey teams easily advanced to the finals of the Olympic tournament. The Women’s format was a little strange with the top four ranked teams battling it out in one division and the 5th through 8th ranked teams playing in the other pool. The top two teams from the A pool (Canada and USA) advanced directly to the semi-finals, while the third place team from pool A played the second place team from pool B and the 4th position from pool A played the winner of pool B. The winner of these games (Sweden and Switzerland) then went on to the semi’s where each was outmatched by Team Canada and Team USA.
Now it’s time for the one game of the tournament that really matters to these teams. The gold medal game. Team Canada won the gold in the last three Olympics, but they haven’t done quite as well at the World Championships, winning only 1 of the last 5 World Championship games. Looking at these past records it’s really anyones game.

As mentioned, Canada beat Team USA 3-2 in the round robin game between the two nations. The game was very tightly contested though with Canada outshooting the States 31-27. This is the only game that I am looking at when picking who I think will win because I don’t think playing lesser opponents really translates when you play someone as strong as you.
Yes, Team USA did outscore the Canadians through the tournament registering 20 goals for to Canada’s 14, but the Canadians have only given up 3 goals in their 4 games and they were able to slow down the Americans offensively in their round robin game.
I truly see this game going either way and for that reason I’m on Canada at +115. They already defeated the USA once in this tournament and they have a history of raising their game on the biggest stage with gold medals in the last 3 Olympics. Team USA may have this in the back of their minds heading into the game and this could affect their performance.
