Sports Betting in Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri
Legal and regulated online sports betting is live in Kansas, while it remains illegal to operate a sportsbook in Oklahoma and Missouri at this time.
Kansas legalized sports betting in 2022, and the first regulated online sportsbooks launched in the state on September 1st, 2022. There are now six betting sites active in Kansas, as well as retail sportsbooks at many casinos in the state.
At this point in time legalized sports betting does not seem imminent in Oklahoma. The Governor did reach an agreement with two federally recognized tribes in April of 2020 on a new gaming compact that includes sports betting, but other lawmakers disagreed with the decision which halted any progress. In 2022 another bill was introduced that would have allowed tribes to opt into a new tribal-state compact that would legalize sports betting, but the bill once again failed. Missouri is also in the initial stages of regulating sports betting. Two new house bills relating to sports betting were introduced to start the 2023 legislative session. There is optimism that a sports betting bill gets approved in 2023. Until then it’s still a wait and see approach to sports betting in Missouri.
Residents of Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri all still have the option to bet with established offshore betting sites like the ones outlined above.
