Point Spread
With a point spread bet the favorite must win by more than the spread amount, while the underdog must either win the game outright or lose by fewer points than the spread.
In the above example the Boston Celtics are 2.5 point favorites (-2.5). Spread bets on the Celtics -2.5 would win if Boston wins the game by 3 or more points. Spread bets on the 76ers +2.5 would win if Philly wins the game outright or loses by 2 or fewer points.
Win (Money Line)
A money line bet is simply a wager on which team will win the game. The risk vs reward of the bet is determined by the odds.
In the above example the Celtics are -145 favorites. This means every $145 wagered on the Celtics would win $100 if the earn the victory. The 76ers are +125 underdogs, which means every $100 risked on the 76ers would win $125 if they won the game.
Total
A total is an over/under wager on the amount of points scored in the game. The oddsmaker sets a total and you can bet on whether the number of points scored by both teams combined will be over or under that amount.
In the above example the over/under is set at 227.5 points. Over bets would win if 228 or more points are scored in the game, while under bets would win if 227 or fewer points are scored.
